THE EXPECTORATION TABOO

Human Saliva contains 98% water, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride, bicarbonate and phosphate electrolyes, mucus (mucopolysaccharides and glycoproteins), antibacterial compounds (thiocyanate, hydrogen peroxide, and secretory immunoglobulin A), various enzymes (α-amylase, lysozyme, lingual lipase, salivary acid phosphatases A+B, N-acetylmuramyl-L-alanine amidase, NAD(P)H dehydrogenase-quinone, salivary lactoperoxidase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione transferase, class 3 aldehyde dehydrogenase, glucose-6-phosphate isomerase, and tissue kallikrein), human and bacterial cells (with small organic acids, amines, and thiols) and Opiorphin (a pain-killing substance).

Every time, when you spit in public, this chemical set is forcibly ejected.

Spitting, in general is considered as unsuitable task to do in public, worldwide (You will not spit in public before the girl/ boy whom you are trying to impress or your current school teacher/ college professor/ project manager). On the other hand, spitting is a competitive sport in some places (even there is a Guinness Record and world championships for spitting). Also remember Jack teaching Rose the "art" of spitting into the sea in hollywood movie Titanic (positively, the lateral thinking on the concept of projectile).

In all other cases, we are still in the position to keep our mouth shut (at least in this regard) as spitting is infectious, causing atypical pneumonia and tuberculosis. Public spitting is not only an environmental hazard but also a psychological hazard. Let not blush somebody with embarrassment. (FYI: I never spit in public in at least 20+ years of my memory)
